ARC Raiders Turbine Guide: How to Find, Fight, and Loot the Turbine
The Turbine is ARC Raiders' most dangerous new threat — a flying, mine-laying, lightning-blasting boss that kills you in two hits. Here's everything you need to know to bring it down and claim the loot.
What Is the Turbine?
The Turbine is a new and uniquely dangerous ARC enemy added to ARC Raiders, exclusive to the Riven Tides map. Unlike standard ARC enemies that patrol fixed areas, the Turbine is a match event. It's a powerful boss-tier threat that drops into the map under specific conditions, creates a heavily mined zone around itself, and attacks with lightning strikes capable of killing a fully shielded raider in just two hits.
It's one of the hardest enemies in the game right now. It requires specific weapon loadouts, sound tactical positioning, and an understanding of its two-phase behavior pattern to bring down efficiently. But the rewards for killing it are unique and directly enable one of the most interesting new movement items in the game.
This guide breaks down how the Turbine spawns, both strategies for killing it, and what you get for taking it down.
How and When the Turbine Spawns
The Turbine does not spawn in every match, and this is the first thing to internalize before planning your session around it. Here's what you need to know:
Spawn window: The Turbine only spawns between 16 and 13 minutes remaining on the match timer. If nothing has dropped in by the 13-minute mark, the Turbine will not appear in that session. It's safe to leave and queue again.
Spawn rate: It's not guaranteed per match. You will have sessions where it simply doesn't show up. Don't build your entire run around farming it exclusively. Always arrive with a secondary objective and treat the Turbine as a bonus if it drops in.
Night raids significantly increase spawn chance. This comes directly from developer knowledge shared during early testing: Riven Tides night raids have a higher probability of the Turbine spawning per match. If you're struggling to encounter it consistently, wait specifically for night raid sessions on Riven Tides rather than queuing into any available session.
Multiple Turbines can spawn in a single match. This is rare, but confirmed — there have been documented cases of three Turbines dropping into the same match. Treat this as a bonus when it happens; it's not something to count on or plan around.
Practical Approach to Finding the Turbine
Given the conditional spawn, the best mindset is:
- Drop into Riven Tides — preferably a night raid session
- Play the map normally for the first portion of the match (loot, complete other objectives)
- Monitor the timer — if the Turbine hasn't spawned by the 13-minute mark, extract and queue again
- If it does spawn between 16–13 minutes, pivot your run toward engaging it
This approach means you never waste a full run waiting for something that may not appear.
Loadout Requirements: What to Bring
The Turbine has heavy ARC armor plating that must be stripped before you can deal meaningful damage to its inner core. Bringing an underpowered weapon makes this fight significantly longer and more dangerous. Here's what to prioritize:
Minimum viable weapon: A Betatina: It can work, but expect the fight to take longer.
Recommended weapons:
- Jupiter - Excellent armor penetration, strong damage output on exposed weak points
- Equalizer - Equally strong; top-tier option for this fight
Supplementary tools:
- Wolf Pack grenades - Deal solid damage to the Turbine and are well worth bringing alongside your primary weapon. They're not a substitute for a strong primary, but they accelerate the fight meaningfully.
- Deadlines - Can be applied to the Turbine's landed form for approximately 2,000 damage per placement. More on how to use these below.
Armor: Bring the best shield you can access. The Turbine's lightning attack removes your shield entirely with the first hit and deals roughly 50% health damage. A heavy shield gives you the most buffer. But no shield will save you from two consecutive direct hits without cover.
Understanding the Turbine's Two Phases
The Turbine operates in two distinct modes, and understanding both is the key to fighting it effectively.
Phase 1: Landed Mode (Minefield Active)
When the Turbine isn't actively aggroed, it lands on the ground and plants a minefield around itself. These mines are scattered across the surrounding area and have a 10-meter activation radius. Get within 10 meters and they detonate, dealing damage.
A single mine detonation won't destroy you, and hitting one or two doesn't necessarily trigger the Turbine into aggro mode. But the minefield becomes extremely dangerous the moment the Turbine transitions into Phase 2. If you're caught mid-minefield when it takes off and starts attacking, you may instinctively sprint for cover and run directly through a cluster of them, taking a burst of simultaneous damage at the worst possible moment.
In landed mode, the Turbine exposes its weak point. Three yellow canisters become visible, each protected by arc armor plating that can be knocked off with several direct shots. Damaging these canisters deals significantly more damage to the Turbine than shooting its armored exterior. Landed mode is your primary damage window. But the time you have before the Turbine aggroes and takes off is short.
Phase 2: Airborne Attack Mode
Once aggroed, either by taking damage or detecting players in close range, the Turbine lifts off the ground, ignites its thrusters (burning anything directly underneath it in the process), and transitions into its attack pattern.
In the air, the Turbine fires a projectile ball that splits into three separate lightning strikes on impact. The radius of these three projectiles is wide, the attack fires quickly, and getting caught in the open by even a single strike is devastating:
- First hit: Shield completely broken + approximately 50% health damage
- Second hit: Dead
There is not enough time between the first and second attack to heal. If you get hit once and you're exposed, the second strike will kill you before any healing item kicks in. This is non-negotiable — cover is the only counter to the Turbine's airborne attacks.
The Turbine will remain in airborne attack mode as long as it continues taking damage. If you stop shooting and duck into a building, it will eventually de-aggro and land again, resetting to Phase 1.
Two Strategies for Killing the Turbine
Strategy 1: Aggressive Engagement (Recommended)
This is the faster, more reliable method for most players — particularly in sessions where multiple raiders are fighting the Turbine at the same time.
How it works:
- Aggro the Turbine by opening fire on it. It will immediately transition into Phase 2 and take to the air.
- Get into a building with line of sight to the Turbine. You need cover you can duck in and out of between its attack volleys.
- Watch its attack cycle. When it fires and the lightning strikes land, you have a brief window before the next volley. Peek out of cover during this window and fire at the armor plating.
- Focus fire on one specific armor plate rather than spraying at the Turbine broadly. This is critical. Even with a Jupiter or Equalizer, randomly hitting the exterior without focusing your shots on a single plate will take far longer to strip the armor. Pick one plate, shoot it consistently across multiple peeks until it breaks off.
- Once a plate is off and the inner core is exposed, shift your aim to the exposed yellow canister on each subsequent peek. Shots to the inner core deal maximum damage.
- Throw Wolf Pack grenades when the Turbine is in range to supplement your damage output between peeks.
- Repeat — duck back when the next attack comes in, peek and shoot during the lull — until the Turbine is dead.
The most important rule with this strategy: Never stand in the open when the Turbine is in the air. It fires fast, it hits hard, and two strikes is a kill. Every second you spend exposed is borrowed time.
This strategy takes more ammo and resources than the weak-point strategy, but it works reliably without needing to coordinate with other players or navigate the minefield under pressure.
Strategy 2: Weak Point Ambush (More Efficient, More Risky)
This method targets the Turbine's highest-damage vulnerability — the exposed yellow canisters in Phase 1 — and cycles between dealing burst damage and disengaging before the Turbine fully aggroes.
How it works:
- Wait for the Turbine to land and enter Phase 1 (minefield active, canisters exposed).
- Navigate through the minefield carefully. Stay outside the 10-meter activation radius of each mine and work your way to a position with a clear shot at the yellow canisters.
- Open fire on the exposed canisters. This deals significantly more damage per shot than hitting armored sections in Phase 2.
- The Turbine will aggro after a short damage threshold. Immediately disengage and sprint toward the nearest building.
- Wait inside cover. The Turbine de-aggroes relatively quickly once you stop engaging. It will land again and return to Phase 1.
- Repeat the cycle — sneak in, hit the weak point, disengage, wait.
Deadline variant: A Deadline sticky bomb applied to the Turbine during its landed Phase 1 deals approximately 2,000 damage — a significant burst. To use this effectively, approach the Turbine through the minefield, apply the Deadline to the underside or lower section of the body (getting the Deadline into the inner yellow core hasn't been reliably achieved yet — stick it to the exterior near the weak point), and immediately sprint for cover before the Turbine's thrusters ignite.
Why Strategy 1 is generally recommended over Strategy 2:
The weak point ambush is theoretically more ammo-efficient, but it has a significant practical problem: other players. In a live match, the moment the Turbine spawns, other raiders will start shooting it from wherever they are — often from buildings at range, without knowing or caring about the weak point mechanic. If you're carefully positioning through the minefield for a precise weak-point shot while someone else has the Turbine in airborne Phase 2, you're exposed in the minefield when lightning strikes start raining down. The coordination required to make the weak-point strategy truly efficient simply isn't reliable in a public session.
Unless you're in a premade squad where you can explicitly coordinate everyone's approach, Strategy 1 — aggressive engagement from cover — is the more consistent path to a kill.
What to Watch Out For: Turbine Combat Tips
Never be in the open when the Turbine is airborne. It bears repeating because it's the single most common cause of death in this fight. Two hits from its lightning split-strike is a kill. Find a building, get inside, and use doorways or windows to peek.
Focus your armor shots on one plate at a time. Randomly distributing fire across the Turbine's armored body dramatically reduces your damage efficiency. Pick a plate, commit to it across multiple peek windows until it breaks.
Watch your feet in the minefield. If you're using Strategy 2, always be aware of mine positions. Getting caught mid-sprint through the minefield when the Turbine aggroes can stack enough simultaneous mine damage to kill you outright before the lightning even hits.
The Turbine's thrusters will burn you. If you're too close when it launches into Phase 2, the thruster exhaust deals direct fire damage. Get clear of the Turbine before it takes off.
Deadlines work, but require positioning. Getting the Deadline inside the inner yellow core for maximum effect hasn't been consistently achieved — for now, stick it to the exterior near the weak point section. 2,000 damage per Deadline is still meaningful, and the method is worth using if you're doing the weak-point ambush loop.
Turbine Loot: What You Get for Killing It
Once the Turbine is down, approach the wreckage and loot it. Here's what drops:
| Loot | Details |
|---|---|
| Turbine Compressor | 1 guaranteed drop from the main compartment |
| Turbine Compressor (bonus) | Small chance to appear in additional smaller loot pieces |
| Standard ARC Materials | Typical ARC enemy loot alongside the main drops |
The Turbine Compressor is the key drop. It's a crafting material required to build the Power Descender, one of the most interesting new utility items added alongside the Turbine.
Power Descender: What the Turbine Compressor Builds
The Power Descender is a movement utility item that allows you to descend safely from any height up to approximately 15 meters. Think of it as a controlled thrust-brake — it slows your fall so you land without taking fall damage.
Key mechanics:
- 15-meter effective range — Works for significant drops but won't catch infinite falls
- Must be activated before impact, not at the last moment — If you activate it right as you hit the ground, you'll take full fall damage. The thruster needs time to build up power, so trigger it slightly before the final descent
- Recharges like a Stepbook or Photoelectric Cloak — After use, it recharges passively over time
- Not a movement tool — It won't let you fly laterally or maneuver through the air. It's a vertical descent control only
- Works from the Spaceport launch tower — With proper timing on activation, you can drop from the top of the launch tower and land safely
The Power Descender blueprint drops from Riven Tides containers at a fairly common rate — multiple blueprints have been found in a single session of regular looting across the map. You won't need to hunt for it specifically; just play Riven Tides and loot containers as normal, and you'll likely find it without much trouble. The Turbine Compressor is the bottleneck — the blueprint itself is accessible.

Final Tips
- Always run a night raid when farming the Turbine. The higher spawn chance per session is the single most reliable way to encounter it consistently.
- Don't commit your whole run to the Turbine. Have a secondary objective - looting, farming materials, whatever fits your session. If the Turbine doesn't drop in, the run wasn't wasted.
- Get inside a building before engaging. Firing at the Turbine from the open hoping to trade shots is a guaranteed death. Building first, engagement second.
- Bring Wolf Packs. They're one of the most efficient damage tools available in this fight and don't consume a weapon slot.
- Farm the Power Descender blueprint passively. Just play Riven Tides normally - the blueprint drops commonly enough from regular containers that dedicated farming isn't needed.
The Turbine is one of the most challenging PvE encounters in ARC Raiders right now, but once you know its patterns and respect the lightning, it becomes a repeatable fight with a significant and unique reward. Master the cover-peek rhythm, strip the armor methodically, and the Turbine Compressor — and everything you can build with it — is yours.
