CAR HOOD

Car Hood

TACTICAL INTELLIGENCE & STRATEGY

The Car Hood is exactly what it sounds like — the hood of an abandoned vehicle, propped open to reveal the engine bay as a lootable container. It's one of the most common containers in the game, showing up across a massive sixteen sectors spanning nearly every major area on the map. One important caveat: Car Hoods must be breached. Unlike most containers, the breaching animation here is long and loud. Although it doesn't cost any resources, it does make significant noise and leaves you exposed for several seconds. Always clear the immediate area before committing, and think twice in high-traffic zones where the sound could draw attention. Furthermore, car alarms are sound traps in this game, so be wary of setting those off. The loot pool is strong and mechanically focused. The standout drops are Advanced Mechanical Components, Motor, Industrial Battery, and Mechanical Components — all high-demand crafting materials for mid-to-high tier gear. Wires, Metal Parts, Plastic Parts, Rubber Parts, Rusted Bolts, Rusted Gear, Metal Brackets, and Oil round out this high-tier loot pool, making this one of the most reliable sources for mechanical and electrical materials in the game. There is also Quest/Project items, such as the Light Bulb. Some of the Car Hood containers have fixed spawns, meaning they are the same across each run. This is useful for tracking down very niche items, like once again, the Light Bulb, which is needed for certain projects. Car Hoods are worth breaching if you're farming mechanical components or having a bad run and need to justify your Topside expedition. The noise is the main risk factor. In quieter sectors like the Scrap Yard or Hydroponic Dome Complex, it's a non-issue. In contested, open areas, like Checkpoint, be more deliberate about timing your breach. The loot density more than justifies the noise if the coast is clear. Given how widely distributed Car Hoods are, almost every run will present multiple opportunities. Prioritize the ones in lower-risk positions and skip the ones in exposed or high-traffic spots unless you're confident the area is clear.
